PARTAY!

The most exciting thing that happened this month was my mom coming to visit. She and Lacey had so much fun getting to know each other better, and I had fun staying in bed longer in the mornings. :)

The Sunday after Grandma got here, we had a small gathering of friends and family who wanted to visit--us, Grandma Welker, Grandpa and Grandmother Bobo, Uncle Brad, and the Hos. My cousin also stopped by later for some good times. It was fun to another little rugrat for Lacey to run around with.

Most of the pictures that we took came out kind of fuzzy, but a few are decent.

The whole time, Lacey wanted to climb up into my chair. It's hard to eat dinner with a little kid trying to grab at everything. So I think that Grandma invited her over to her chair eventually. And Lacey stole my water bottle. Oh well.

Uncle Brad being Uncle Brad.

And Lacey playing with Grandpa Bobo. I just love her little pony tail on top of her head. She doesn't usually let me touch her hair. And actually it was a fight to get that one in, too. But it's so darn cute!

On subsequent days, we did lots of fun stuff. Lacey was a bit wary of Grandma at first, though I think that may just be because she wasn't feeling well. I thought she was teething, but I think she had a sore throat, since a few days later I woke up in the middle of the night with a killer sore throat, and then my mom woke up with a sore throat. And then, we talked to my aunt in Arizona, and SHE had woken up with a sore throat, too! We decided we must have texted it to her.

Anyway, one day, we went to the park. Grandma and Lacey had a little bonding experience over the wood chips.

Another day, we went out to lunch with Grandma and Grandpa Simmons and Uncle Brad. Lacey was extremely well-behaved at the restaurant, for which I am extremely grateful. She played with a straw and a cup of ice water the whole time, and told stories to everyone at the table. I tell you, she's a hit wherever she goes. We didn't get any pictures at lunch, but we did get some cute pictures of Lacey playing with Uncle Brad.

We went to the farmers market at the football stadium at BYU. It was actually lots of fun. I'm excited for next year when it will be bigger. Anyway, we got some cute little things for Lacey--some finger puppets and a cute little red tote bag. Evidently, when Lacey's mommy was little, she would put little books in her purse and carry them around like a big girl. Lacey loves carrying around her purse, too, and even has her own keys and cell phone to put inside. You can see the bag there, and Lacey reading with Grandma.

And then, on Saturday we went to a birthday party for Phil's mom. It was a surprise birthday party, too. There was much sneakiness that went into making it happen. Grandmother Bobo was very surprised to open the door to 8 of her 13 grandchildren. I'm pretty sure that Lacey's favorite part was the balloons. And this purple witch's hat.

And here's Lacey with her Aunt Emily. Emily gave Lacey that cute little purple dress that she's wearing. The ukulele was a big hit with all the kids, and here Lacey is having a turn with it, too. Lots of purple going on here.

Random Stuff First

Firstly, some random pictures that I think are fun.

At the beginning of September, we had the opportunity to attend the baptism of a good family friend. Unfortunately, we got no pictures except this one, where Lacey is trying to sit in the little baby bouncer. She has a little toddler rocking chair that she fits on just fine, but she doesn't realize that these are not the same.

I love when I go back to her room and find her in the chair reading a story. She really loves her books. It brings joy to my heart.
And the silly random things that babies do just make me laugh. Like up lining diapers on the tv stand. Sheesh.

I am very proud of this dress that I made for Lacey. I made a skirt for myself and had so much material left over that i decided to make a dress for Lacey out of it. And then I added the red lace, and it turned out really cute, and really easy, too. Making little girl dresses is so much fun!

Updating

I've fallen behind! There's been some excitement here lately, so I'm gonna be updating soon, probably with lots of posts and pictures, so stay tuned!

Lacey's shenanigans

Nothing is safe these days. She can reach anything, anywhere. Except maybe on top of the refrigerator. And I know that isn't safe forever.

Lacey also likes to help me do various chores around the house. Mostly, switching clothes from the washer to the dryer and emptying the dishwasher. Though she hasn't quite got loading the dishwasher down yet. I turned around and the dirty dish and stuffed cat had switched places.

Catch Up

Now that August is over, I can get to blogging about it. Aside from Lacey's traumatic hospital visits, we got to do a few fun things.

We had the wonderful opportunity to attend Phil's nephew's baptism. It is always so wonderful and special to witness a young person make their commitment to Christ. I'm so glad we got to be there for it. There was, of course, much picture taking because we had most of the Bobo clan together.

Here's Grandpa and Grandmother Bobo with 11 of their 13 grandchildren. It's so much fun to have all those cousins together.
A picture to look at in the future and be confused about which kid is whose. For future reference--Emily has Lacey, Phil has Mark, Will has Nathan Edwards, and Jessica has Ivan. And I'm pretty sure that's Parker's head down in the corner.

Lacey's looking to shoot some nerf darts at anyone who dares to mess with her.
She got REALLY tired. It was way past her nap time. I think here she's going through Samantha's purse.
And of course Daddy racked out on the floor. He doesn't look terribly comfortable, though.

That evening, Lacey and I headed up to my cousin's house for a nice little Welker family get together. My grandma, uncle, aunt, and some cousins enjoyed eachother's company. Lacey enjoyed playing with the dog. She was so thrilled when he chased the ball, even when she would just drop it at her feet. He got bored with her pretty quick, though.

Lacey was thrilled with the dog, and I was thrilled that she was thrilled.
Here's a cute little video of her playing with him. And him getting bored with her.

And Lacey stealing Great-grandma Welker's cane.

Me and Lacey and Great-Grandma Welker

Among other interesting things:

Daddy brought home this huge computer. Well, it's not really interesting, especially since now we have an extra computer floating around (errrg), but he wanted to take a picture of Lacey with the huge computer, so here it is.

As I was trying to get a decent picture of Lacey for Grandmother Bobo (it's hard--she won't stay still for two seconds) I stumbled across this little gem. It captures her personality perfectly.

Don't be fooled by the calm little baby in this picture. She really is a crazy little monster. But oh so cute. She does love to read her books, though. She'll climb up into the rocking chair in her bedroom and read books. It's the cutest thing.

Lastly, I finished another sewing project. I made this dress for Lacey. This one was actually pretty easy and fun to make. It's big on her, but that just means it will last longer.

update

So, recap:

At her 15 month well-baby appointment, Lacey had a little heart murmur, so we got sent to the cardiologist, who heart a second murmur that sounded strange, and based on its location and behavior, it could be a PDA (a hole in her heart). Because she wouldn't be still for an echo cardiogram, we had to schedule a sedated echo cardiogram. Which was this morning.

And what a morning. We had to go up to Children Primary Medical Center, which is part of U of U. Today was the first day of class at U of U and traffic was TERRIBLE. If I'd known, I probably would have taken the 7 am slot instead of the 8:30 am slot. So, we had to fight traffic on campus, and then we had to find the hospital was because google maps sent us to the wrong place. And then once we got to the hospital, we had to find Primary Children's. And once we found Primary Children's, we had to find cardiology. And by the time we did all that, were an hour late for her appointment. Lucky for us, the people before us were an hour late as well. Evidently classes starting always throws them off. Unluckily for us, Lacey couldn't eat breakfast, so she was an hour hungrier by the time we got everything started. Things got going pretty quickly when we finally got there, though. They weighed and measured her, and asked questions about her health history, then took us back to the imaging room to get her IV started. It took four nurses to hold her down and about 2 hours (it seemed to me, probably more like 15 minutes) of screaming to get the IV in. Daddy was laughing at her, and Mommy was crying right along with her.

The end of the story is that Lacey's heart is perfectly healthy, no holes or anything. She was back to normal really quickly. We went and visited Grandmother Bobo after, and a couple of Lacey's cousins were there as well, and she was running around with them in no time. It was kind of funny to see her unsteady on her feet for a couple minutes, but it really didn't last long.

It's good to know that she's healthy, but what an experience!

An up date on Lacey--15 months

Lacey turned 15 months old on the 8th of this month. At her well baby appointment, she weighed 23 pounds and was 30 1/4 inches tall, which is pretty much average. Lacey loves to read and, of course, watch cartoons, though she doesn't have a favorite. She loves fruit and pasta and bread, and sometimes she'll eat chicken and vegetables. She's a pretty good eater, and definitely better than her mother was at that age, and less picky than her father is now. She loves to dance, especially to the rhythm of the washing machine. She suddenly decided one day that she likes taking baths. So instead of screaming when we put her in like she used to do, she screams when we take her out. She has several words, including Daddy, doggie, kitty cat, ball, and BoBo. There's probably a few others that I can't think of right now. She understands more now, too. I can tell her it's time to change her diaper, and she'll run back to her diaper changing spot and lie down (though she usually ends up face down and backwards). It's cute.

Now, the drama of the day. At Lacey's well baby appointment, the doctor decided she needed to see a cardiologist to check out a heart murmur that's persisted. So we trekked up to Riverton to the children's hospital to get her heart looked at. First thing they had to take her blood pressure, which they eventually gave up with because it upset Lacey so much and she wouldn't be still enough for the machine to work. But who can blame Lacey for freaking out at it--those things are very uncomfortable. It kind of set the tone for the rest of the appointment. EVERY little thing set her off. But she settled down long enough for the doctors to take a listen to her little heart. They heard something a little funny (that was actually something different from the original murmur we were there to check out, a second murmur, the doctor said), so they sent us over to get an echo cardiogram (an ultrasound of her heart), but of course she wouldn't lie down, so now they're sending us up to Primary Children's in Salt Lake for a sedated echo. I don't particularly like the sound of it, but I trust my doctors to know what's best unless the Spirit tells me otherwise.

So, all of this fuss is to make sure that she does not have a Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), which is basically when the ductus (whatever that is) in the heart doesn't close after birth. It is the doctor's opinion that she probably does not have one, and if she does have one, it is very small, and wouldn't require any more intervention than just following it. If it were really significant, she would have other symptoms, and she simply doesn't have any (I checked "no" to every one), like trouble gaining weight or shortness of breath.

But the good part of the day was stopping by Phil's sister's house so Lacey could play with her cousins after her traumatic hospital experience. She had so much fun and came right out of her grumpy mood.

So, yeah, that's the latest news from the Bobo house.
