update

So, recap:

At her 15 month well-baby appointment, Lacey had a little heart murmur, so we got sent to the cardiologist, who heart a second murmur that sounded strange, and based on its location and behavior, it could be a PDA (a hole in her heart). Because she wouldn't be still for an echo cardiogram, we had to schedule a sedated echo cardiogram. Which was this morning.

And what a morning. We had to go up to Children Primary Medical Center, which is part of U of U. Today was the first day of class at U of U and traffic was TERRIBLE. If I'd known, I probably would have taken the 7 am slot instead of the 8:30 am slot. So, we had to fight traffic on campus, and then we had to find the hospital was because google maps sent us to the wrong place. And then once we got to the hospital, we had to find Primary Children's. And once we found Primary Children's, we had to find cardiology. And by the time we did all that, were an hour late for her appointment. Lucky for us, the people before us were an hour late as well. Evidently classes starting always throws them off. Unluckily for us, Lacey couldn't eat breakfast, so she was an hour hungrier by the time we got everything started. Things got going pretty quickly when we finally got there, though. They weighed and measured her, and asked questions about her health history, then took us back to the imaging room to get her IV started. It took four nurses to hold her down and about 2 hours (it seemed to me, probably more like 15 minutes) of screaming to get the IV in. Daddy was laughing at her, and Mommy was crying right along with her.

The end of the story is that Lacey's heart is perfectly healthy, no holes or anything. She was back to normal really quickly. We went and visited Grandmother Bobo after, and a couple of Lacey's cousins were there as well, and she was running around with them in no time. It was kind of funny to see her unsteady on her feet for a couple minutes, but it really didn't last long.

It's good to know that she's healthy, but what an experience!

An up date on Lacey--15 months

Lacey turned 15 months old on the 8th of this month. At her well baby appointment, she weighed 23 pounds and was 30 1/4 inches tall, which is pretty much average. Lacey loves to read and, of course, watch cartoons, though she doesn't have a favorite. She loves fruit and pasta and bread, and sometimes she'll eat chicken and vegetables. She's a pretty good eater, and definitely better than her mother was at that age, and less picky than her father is now. She loves to dance, especially to the rhythm of the washing machine. She suddenly decided one day that she likes taking baths. So instead of screaming when we put her in like she used to do, she screams when we take her out. She has several words, including Daddy, doggie, kitty cat, ball, and BoBo. There's probably a few others that I can't think of right now. She understands more now, too. I can tell her it's time to change her diaper, and she'll run back to her diaper changing spot and lie down (though she usually ends up face down and backwards). It's cute.

Now, the drama of the day. At Lacey's well baby appointment, the doctor decided she needed to see a cardiologist to check out a heart murmur that's persisted. So we trekked up to Riverton to the children's hospital to get her heart looked at. First thing they had to take her blood pressure, which they eventually gave up with because it upset Lacey so much and she wouldn't be still enough for the machine to work. But who can blame Lacey for freaking out at it--those things are very uncomfortable. It kind of set the tone for the rest of the appointment. EVERY little thing set her off. But she settled down long enough for the doctors to take a listen to her little heart. They heard something a little funny (that was actually something different from the original murmur we were there to check out, a second murmur, the doctor said), so they sent us over to get an echo cardiogram (an ultrasound of her heart), but of course she wouldn't lie down, so now they're sending us up to Primary Children's in Salt Lake for a sedated echo. I don't particularly like the sound of it, but I trust my doctors to know what's best unless the Spirit tells me otherwise.

So, all of this fuss is to make sure that she does not have a Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), which is basically when the ductus (whatever that is) in the heart doesn't close after birth. It is the doctor's opinion that she probably does not have one, and if she does have one, it is very small, and wouldn't require any more intervention than just following it. If it were really significant, she would have other symptoms, and she simply doesn't have any (I checked "no" to every one), like trouble gaining weight or shortness of breath.

But the good part of the day was stopping by Phil's sister's house so Lacey could play with her cousins after her traumatic hospital experience. She had so much fun and came right out of her grumpy mood.

So, yeah, that's the latest news from the Bobo house.
