update

So, recap:

At her 15 month well-baby appointment, Lacey had a little heart murmur, so we got sent to the cardiologist, who heart a second murmur that sounded strange, and based on its location and behavior, it could be a PDA (a hole in her heart). Because she wouldn't be still for an echo cardiogram, we had to schedule a sedated echo cardiogram. Which was this morning.

And what a morning. We had to go up to Children Primary Medical Center, which is part of U of U. Today was the first day of class at U of U and traffic was TERRIBLE. If I'd known, I probably would have taken the 7 am slot instead of the 8:30 am slot. So, we had to fight traffic on campus, and then we had to find the hospital was because google maps sent us to the wrong place. And then once we got to the hospital, we had to find Primary Children's. And once we found Primary Children's, we had to find cardiology. And by the time we did all that, were an hour late for her appointment. Lucky for us, the people before us were an hour late as well. Evidently classes starting always throws them off. Unluckily for us, Lacey couldn't eat breakfast, so she was an hour hungrier by the time we got everything started. Things got going pretty quickly when we finally got there, though. They weighed and measured her, and asked questions about her health history, then took us back to the imaging room to get her IV started. It took four nurses to hold her down and about 2 hours (it seemed to me, probably more like 15 minutes) of screaming to get the IV in. Daddy was laughing at her, and Mommy was crying right along with her.

The end of the story is that Lacey's heart is perfectly healthy, no holes or anything. She was back to normal really quickly. We went and visited Grandmother Bobo after, and a couple of Lacey's cousins were there as well, and she was running around with them in no time. It was kind of funny to see her unsteady on her feet for a couple minutes, but it really didn't last long.

It's good to know that she's healthy, but what an experience!

  2. Hooray for Lacey! Who, by the way, has forgotten the whole ordeal already. We hope Katherine heals quickly too.
